Old U.S. Mint in New Orleans – 2013

United-States-Mint-in-New-Orleans

When you’re visit to New Orleans includes staying at 1896 O’Malley House Bed and Breakfast – check out the Old U.S. Mint built in 1835 on the old Fort St. Charles site in New Orleans.  This is known as the only mint to have produced American and Confederate money, and produced coinage from 1838 until Louisiana succeeded from the Union in 1861.  It was the only southern mint to reopen after the Civil War, resuming full production from 1879 through 1909.

Currently, the Mint also serves as a musical venue offering a recording space, web streaming, music related exhibits, and performances.

September offers a couple of wonderful events.

September 14 – Ben Sollee and Helen Gillet featuring moving compositions  mixing various music styles.  Doors open at 7:30 and admission is $10.

September 18 – Be part of a truly unique experience as Sybil Gage comes back to her home.  Known as “Little Dynamo,” you’ll enjoy her Pre-war Blues, Vaudeville, and Traditional Jazz set.  Doors open at 6 pm and admission is $12.

5th Annual New Orleans Burlesque Festival – September 19-21, 2013

burlesqueWhether you are an enthusiast or a performer – if you are coming to the 5th Annual New Orleans Burlesque Festival, we know you will find perfect accommodations at 1896 O’Malley House Bed and Breakfast.  Conveniently located less than 4 miles from all of the events, we know you will find the comfort and luxury of our inn to be far superior than other traditional accommodations.

The New Orleans Burlesque Festival, September 19-21, 2013;  is a fitting event in our city, as burlesque is a signature attraction in the French Quarter, primarily popular from the mid-40′s through the 60s.  Having once been a staple to NOLA entertainment, modern burlesque was embraced during the 1995 revival and continues as one of our city’s traditions.

The event will be a blast!  Take in up to five burlesque shows featuring everything from male burlesque stars to a competition to determine the “Queen of Burlesque” – ending with the “Queen’s Ball.”  Throughout the festival, you can take in some workshops to improve your burlesque technique.  Explore the use of Jazz in your routine and participate in a high energy burlesque workout!  For more information about this event, see the website.

When making your travel arrangements for this flamboyant and lively event – consider the elegant accommodations that we offer at 1896 O’Malley House Bed and Breakfast.
