30th French Quarter Festival – April 11-14, 2013

fqfi_logoApril is full of fun and exciting events to keep you busy and entertained during your stay with us.  Stay at 1896 O’Malley House Bed and Breakfast during the French Quarter Festival, happening April 11-14.  This festival was originally created to bring locals back to the French Quarter after major street and sidewalk repairs in 1984.  This festival has been drawing crowds for 30 years!

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the French Quarter Festival and other annual events provided by French Quarter Festivals, Inc.  You won’t want to miss all of the exciting things planned for this year’s festival!

  • ·       Find over 800 local musicians at this festival, the largest music festival in the South. 
  • ·       Check-out special events such as a French Quarter Film Festival and lectures with Louisiana Musicians. 
  • ·       Hang out with your kids in the kid-friendly zones and a great place for family fun. 
  • ·       Enjoy delicious offerings of over 65 New Orleans best restaurants. 
  • ·       April 13 don’t miss fireworks on the Mississippi River at 9 pm.

Freret Street Festival – New Orleans 2013

freretstreetfestivalEnjoy a favorite New Orleans festival when you stay at 1896 O’Malley House Bed & Breakfast over the first weekend in April.  On April 6 from Noon-6 pm, check out the Freret Street Festival.  This popular, annual festival features 200 vendors including delicious local flavors and hand-made arts & crafts created by New Orleans artisans.  These vendors will show you what makes New Orleans so special.

What’s a New Orleans festival without music?  The Freret Street Festival features 4 musical stages with artists performing back-to-back during the entire time of the festival.  Check out artists such as Creole String Beans, Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes, Wild Magnolias, Bourbon Brass…and so much more!

Guests will find additional activities to fill their time with the parades, kid’s activity area, and cats and dogs looking for forever homes.

This festival is an awesome way to spend a Saturday afternoon!  Find it on Freret St. between Napoleon and Jefferson.  Then come back in the evening, ready to relax and recharge in our inn.

New Orlean’s Own Crescent City Classic 2013

2009-crescent-city-classic-7b2264bfa7654fd7Coming down to New Orleans for the All State Sugarbowl Crescent City Classic?  Recuperate from this 10K in the comfortable accommodations at 1896 O’Malley House Bed and Breakfast!  Our delicious breakfast will nourish you and we can even offer pampering in a local spa after your run.

The Crescent City Classic (CCC) is a New Orleans tradition for over 30 years, and it keeps growing.  This 10K run takes the party to the pavement, and attracts about 20,000 participants.   This year the CCC has expanded for more events throughout the year, so be sure to stay with us when you return for them:

June 8 – Crescent Connection Bridge Run – 4 mile run 300 feet over the Mississippi River!

November 9 – Crescent City Fall Classic – 5K for all running levels, can be used as a qualifier for the 10K CCC.

December 7 – Celebration in the Oaks Run/Walk – A festive 2 mile walk/run especially popular with families and includes a post-race party.  See the Celebration in the Oaks Light Display.
