Christmas New Orleans Style

Christmas New Orleans Style is like no other Christmas in the country! This month long celebration will certainly put you in the holiday mood, as you are transported back in time by costumed characters roaming the Vieux Carre. Celebrate with the Krewe of Jingle holiday parade and the Jingle Mingle Block Part on Canal Street.

New Orleans restaurants will again be hosting Reveillion Dinners, partaking in historic traditions at three NO restaurants which are over 100 years old- Tujague’s, Commander’s Palace, and Galatoire’s.

The 200 year old St. Louis Cathedral will present weekly concerts, featuring choirs, brass bands, Jazz quartets and other musical delights.

Make sure to book your rooms at 1896 O’Malley House so that you don’t miss out on any of the festivities.

PO-BOY Festival

2011 Po Boy Festival On November 20th, 2011, New Orlineans will gather to celebrate the humble Po’Boy and it’s New Orleans origins. The fourth annual festival will be held on Oak Street between Carrollton Avenue and Eagle Street  from 11am to 6pm.

The festival was started as as a way to celebrate the Po’Boy as well as bring attention to the revitalization of the Oak Street Business corridor. Oak Street was designated a National Main Street by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 2006, additionally, the street was declared a Louisiana Main Street by the state Department of Historic Preservation. Money raised by the festival will be used by the Oak Street Association to continue to promote the area as well as provide grants for neighborhood associations.

The star of the show is the Sandwich itself, and many vendors will be out in force with everything from simple shrimp to magnificent lobster Po’ Boys.

Swamp Festival

Audubon Nature Center logoThe 2011 Swamp Fest will be held on November 5th and 6th at the Audubon Zoo, 6500 Magazine Street, in New Orleans.

Get ready for a toe tapping time of Zydeco music with live bands all weekend as well as dancing lessons.

The food is a main ingredient of the fest as well, with Cajun delicacies such as cochon du lait po’ boys, alligator sausage, cochon nachos, soft shell crabs, gunmbo- of course- and those fair favorites, deep fried Twinkies and Oreos.

In the Swamp Exhibit, watch animals being fed and interact in the habitat, and enjoy a petting zoo.

Admission is free to Zoo Members, and the cost of the Festival is covered in Zoo admission for non-members.
